Black Nativity: Home for Christmas is a retelling of the classic Nativity story performed by a black gospel church. Langston, a Toronto teen raised by his single mother Naima, travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged grandparents, Rev. John Cobbs and his wife, Aretha. Rev. Cobbs’ church is doing a production of Black Nativity and Langston finds himself in the lead role. However, Langston soon finds that Rev. Cobbs has strict rules, and the youth is unwilling to follow them. Instead, he sets out on a return journey back home to his mother and finds the value of faith, healing and family along the way.
